As part of their international expansion program, Naturener, a renewable energy company from Spain with a subsidiary in the U.S., has acquired Great Plains Wind and Energy and Energylogics, two wind energy development firms in the U.S. and Canada respectively.Naturener plans to invest €1.8 million in 2007, to increase its production capacity to 1,800 MW. The plant of the U.S. developer, which is headquartered in San Francisco, has a production capacity of 800 MW.
Once the deals are executed, Great Plains Wind and Energy will change its name to Naturener USA and Energylogics will become Naturener Canada.
This movement is yet another signal of a recent trend, with an additional Spanish entrant in the field of wind farm developing in the North American market.
Naturener joins Gamesa, that has interests in the wind developer Navitas Energy, and Iberdrola, a world leader in wind farm ownership that recently snapped Scottish Power. The latter owns PPM Energy, with a significant portfolio in wind energy, that adds up to the assets Iberdrola already had in the US.
